TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT PROGRAM

Bulletin Covers

Reports indicate the SRTA program is the primary method of servicing THM 440-T4 transaxles in the field. Based on analysis of units returned for remanufacturing, the SRTA service option is being used for on-car pleasibility and minor repair items which could have been serviced by the dealership faster and at less cost than a complete unit replacement.

Service Action:

Use SRTA when the projected cost to overhaul the transaxle is more than the cost of a SRTA replacement.

Do not use SRTA for any on-car service items or overhauls that are projected to cost less than a SRTA replacement.

Service Manual Reference:

Complete service procedures are covered in appropriate Service Manuals.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
