ANTI-LACERATIVE WINDSHIELD: REPLACEMENTS SAME AS ORIGINAL

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1986 'A' AND 'E' MODELS

Some 1986 "A" and "E" models are equipped with an anti-lacerative windshield as a standard feature of the vehicle. The plastic lining on the inside surface of this windshield is an important factor for reducing occupant lacerative injuries in the event they impact it during an accident.

In the event that vehicles equipped with such a windshield need to have it replaced, the replacement windshield should be the same. This is a must for repairs done under warranty. On vehicle repairs that are at the customer's expense and the customer elects not to have the replacement be a like windshield, it should be so noted on the customer's invoice and a copy kept in the customer's file.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
