TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT PROGRAM

MODELS AFFECTED: 1984-87 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THM 440-T4 (NE9) TRANSAXLES

Reports indicate the SRTA program is the primary method of servicing THM 440-T4 transaxles in the field. Analysis of units returned for remanufacturing indicates that the SRTA service option is being used to repair some pleasibility and minor items which could have been serviced by the dealership faster and at less cost.

General Guidelines For Replacenient.

o Indications for major internal repair requirements. - Metal in bottom of pan - Burned fluid o Repeat or intermittent conditions. o Fluid leaks resulting from case casting conditions. o All repairs in which cost of repair exceeds cost of SRTA replacement.

General Guidelines For Repair.

o All on-car serviceable items. o All modulator system vacuum supply conditions o All internal repairs in which cost of repair does not exceed cost of SRTA replacement.

Prior zone approval is required for use of a second THM 44OT4 SRTA on the same vehicle.

Service Parts Information:

All component parts for servicing all models and years are available through GM Service Parts Operations (GMSPO).

When ordering service parts (including SRTA) refer to the latest GMSPO Parts Catalog. Make sure to order the correct service parts based on the vehicle model year and transmission application (calibration).
