SERVICE GUILD: USE OF CRANKSHAFT SENSOR ADJ. TOOL

MODELS AFFECTED: 1984 THROUGH 1989 BUICK MODELS EQUIPPED WITH PORT FUEL INJECTED ENGINES AND C I IGNITION (VIN CODES B, C, L, N, 3, 7, 9)

The crankshaft sensor adjusting tool (J 37089) should be used for accurate sensor positioning and determining interrupter vane concentricity. This tool can be used to adjust all crankshaft sensors with the exception of the Delco single slot design illustrated below and can be used to check the concentricity of the interrupter vanes on ALL C3I harmonic balancers. Use of this tool will ensure proper clearance between the interrupter vanes and sensors to prevent replacement sensors from becoming damaged. Use the Kent-Moore feeler gage style crankshaft sensor adjusting tool (J 36179) on Delco single slot design sensors.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
