HIGH EFFORT SWIVELING ACTION OF A/C OUTLET

MODELS AFFECTED: 1983-85 RIVIERA

A condition may exist in which the swiveling action of the A/C outlets on some Rivieras may require high effort. This may be due to the foam drag washer, on one end of the outlet, which may be doubled over. As a result of the doubling over, the A/C outlet swing angle may also be affected.

This may be corrected by removing the outlet by depressing one of the pivot pins through the lower openings and pulling outward on the outlet. In some instances, the removal of the I.P. trim plate may facilitate removal of the outlet. The foam drag washer can then be properly repositioned to the end of the outlet. Carefully reinstall the outlet, foam washer end first, to avoid doubling over and adhering to the housing.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
