Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the fade and balance controls to mid range.
  4. Insert the tape or CD from the J 39916-A CD and Cassette Diagnostic Audio Kit.

Can audio distortion be heard from any speaker?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Test the appropriate speaker output circuits between the radio and the audio amplifier for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Is the vehicle equipped with rear seat entertainment (U32) ?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Test the video entertainment circuits:

    • Remote playback device
    • Left and right audio circuits
    • Remote playback device common audio circuit

For the following:

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    •  A short to B+

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the speaker. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Replace the speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement Reference .
