Notice: To prevent internal damage to the flexible coupling of the catalytic converter assembly, the converter must be supported. The vertical movement at the rear of the catalytic converter assembly must not exceed 6 degrees up or down.

1. Remove the spare tire, if equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD).
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
3. Place a utility stand under the catalytic converter for support.
4. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler bolts.
5. Remove and discard the catalytic converter gasket.
6. Remove the spare tire heat shield, if equipped with AWD.



7. Remove the exhaust hanger insulators from the underbody exhaust hangers.
8. If the vehicle is equipped with AWD, use a utility stand in order to support and lower the crossmember. Refer to Rear Suspension Support Crossmember Replacement .
9. Remove the muffler towards the front of the vehicle.
10. Clean the catalytic converter flange and the muffler flange.
11. Remove the hanger insulators from the muffler assembly.

1. Install the hanger insulators to the muffler assembly.
2. Install the muffler over the rear axle and towards the rear of the vehicle.
3. Install the exhaust hanger insulators to the underbody exhaust hangers.
4. If the vehicle is equipped with AWD, use the utility stand to raise and install the crossmember. Refer to Rear Suspension Support Crossmember Replacement .
5. Install the spare tire heat shield, if equipped with AWD.



6. Install a NEW catalytic converter gasket.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

7. Install the catalytic converter to muffler bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the spare tire, if equipped with AWD.
