Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement LY7

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1392462  Size: SH
  1. Remove the power steering pressure pipe/hose nut from the power steering reservoir mounting stud.
  2. Remove the power steering pressure pipe/hose from the power steering reservoir mounting stud.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Remove the front right tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Remove the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  6. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump and the power steering gear.
  7. Disconnect the pressure hose from the steering gear.
  8. Disconnect the pressure hose from the hose retainer.
  9. Disconnect the pressure hose fitting from the power steering pump.
  10. Remove the pressure hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the pressure hose into the vehicle.
  2. Connect the pressure hose fitting to the power steering pump. HAND TIGHTEN ONLY.
  3. Connect the pressure hose to the hose retainer.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Connect the pressure hose from the steering gear.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure hose fitting to the steering gear to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  7. Remove the drain pan under the power steering pump and the power steering gear.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Install the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the power steering reservoir mounting stud.
  10. Install the power steering pressure pipe/hose nut to the power steering reservoir mounting stud.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe/hose nut to 25 N·m (19 lb ft).

  12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  13. Connect the pressure hose to the power steering pump.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure hose fitting to the pump to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  15. Install the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  16. Install the front right tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Fill the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  19. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  20. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Remove the intake manifold cover. Refer to Intake Manifold Cover Replacement for the 3.5L engine.
  3. Use a suitable tool to drain the power steering reservoir.
  4. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement for the 3.5L engine.
  5. Raise and lower the vehicle as necessary to access the pipe fitting at the rack and pinion. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  6. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  7. Fill and bleed the power steering system after the repair has been completed. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Tip
Release the hose from the retainers to remove it from the vehicle.
