Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement LY7

Removal Procedure

  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Remove the inner fender liner enough to gain access to the front frame bolts. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Exterior Trim.

  5. Object Number: 1388670  Size: SH
  6. Lower the vehicle to allow a floor jack to engage with the frame.
  7. Use a floor jack in order to support the frame and the powertrain.
  8. Remove the right side frame-to-body bolts.
  9. Use the floor jack to lower the right side of the frame and powertrain to provide clearance to the back of the reservoir.
  10. Disconnect the engine control module (ECM) wire harness from the ECM wire harness clip on the reservoir.
  11. Remove the power steering pressure pipe/hose from the power steering reservoir bracket. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .

  13. Remove the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt.
  14. Turn the reservoir to provide visual access to the reservoir hoses.
  15. Disconnect the power steering pump inlet hose from the power steering reservoir.

  17. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering reservoir.

  18. Object Number: 1386751  Size: SH
  19. Remove the power steering reservoir and bracket from the vehicle.
  20. Cap off the power steering reservoir and hoses to prevent contamination.
  21. Remove the ECM retaining clip from the reservoir.
  22. Remove the power steering reservoir bracket from the reservoir. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Bracket Replacement .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering reservoir bracket to the reservoir. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Bracket Replacement .
  2. Install the ECM retaining clip to the reservoir.
  3. Uncap the power steering reservoir and hoses .

  4. Object Number: 1386751  Size: SH
  5. Install the power steering reservoir and bracket to the vehicle.

  6. Object Number: 1386749  Size: SH
  7. Connect the power steering reservoir return hose to the power steering reservoir.
  8. Connect the power steering pump inlet hose to the power steering reservoir.
  9. Position the reservoir in the vehicle.
  10. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  11. Install the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering reservoir mounting stud bolt to 25 N·m (19 lb ft).

  13. Install the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the power steering reservoir bracket. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .
  14. Connect the ECM wire harness to the ECM wire harness clip on the reservoir.

  15. Object Number: 1388670  Size: SH
  16. Use the floor jack to raise the right side of the frame and powertrain.
  17. Install the right rear frame-to-body bolt.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the right rear frame-to-body bolt to 240 N·m (177 lb ft).

  19. Install the right front frame-to-body bolt.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the right rear frame-to-body bolt to 155 N·m (114 lb ft).

  21. Remove the floor jack from the frame and the powertrain.
  22. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  23. Install the inner fender liner . Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  24. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  25. Lower the vehicle.
  26. Fill the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  27. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  28. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
