Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 561883  Size: SH

    Important: The rear wheel speed sensors and rings are integral with the hub and bearing assemblies.

    If a speed sensor or a ring needs replacement, replace the entire hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector located next to the rear strut.

  5. Remove the hub and bearing assembly (1). Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 230412  Size: SH
  1. Install the hub and bearing assembly (1) to the vehicle. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Rear Suspension.

  2. Object Number: 561883  Size: SH
  3. Install the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  4. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position with the engine off.
  7. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - ABS .

Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement Rear (w/AWD)

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the brake caliper and support the brake caliper. Do NOT disconnect the brake hose. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  4. Remove the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  5. Remove the brake rotor.

  7. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  8. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector from the connector bracket.
  9. Disconnect the drive axle from the wheel bearing/hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  10. Remove and DISCARD the wheel bearing/hub bolts.
  11. Remove the wheel bearing/hub.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the wheel bearing/hub.
  2. Caution: These fasteners MUST be replaced with new fasteners anytime they become loose or are removed. Failure to replace these fasteners after they become loose or are removed may cause loss of vehicle control and personal injury.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the NEW wheel bearing/hub bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the NEW wheel bearing/hub bolts to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  5. Connect the drive axle to the wheel bearing/hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  6. Install the wheel speed sensor electrical connector to the connector bracket.

  8. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  9. Install the brake rotor.
  10. Install the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  11. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  12. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
