    •  DTC B2618 Pass Compartment Dimming #2 Circuit High

Refer to Body Control Module Diagnostic Information regarding these DTCs.

Interior Illumination Control

The BCM turns on the courtesy lamps when the following conditions exist:

    • Any vehicle door is opened.
    • The IP dimmer switch is in the dome position.
    • During the exit illumination or delayed illumination.
    • When unlocking the doors using the keyless entry transmitter.

The BCM turns OFF the courtesy lamps when all the doors are closed and the IP dimmer switch is OFF.

All the vehicle doors contain a door lock ajar switch. When the drivers door is open, the left front door lock ajar switch closes and sends a ground signal to the BCM through CKT 49. When one of the following doors is open:

    • The right front
    • The left front
    • The right rear
    • The left rear

the corresponding door lock ajar switch closes and sends a ground signal to the BCM through CKT 727. The BCM grounds CKTs 156 and 157 when detecting a ground signal in either CKT 49 or 727.

When the drivers door is closed, the left front door lock ajar switch opens CKT 49. When one of the following doors is closed:

    • The right front
    • The left front
    • The right rear
    • The left rear

the corresponding door lock ajar switches open CKT 727. The BCM then opens CKTs 156 and 157 when either CKT 49 or 727 is open.

The BCM uses the voltage in CKT 240 to power the courtesy lamps through CKT 1732. The BCM controls the power supplied in CKT 1732 for inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection. The BCM opens CKTs 156 and 157 when the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection is active, CKT 1732 is open.

Delayed Illumination

The BCM grounds CKTs 156 and 157 for 22-28 seconds turning the courtesy lamps ON when the following conditions exist:

    • The ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
    • The IP dimmer switch is OFF.
    • The BCM detects a transition from a ground signal to open in either CKT 49 or 727 when closing all the vehicle doors.

The detailed illumination feature is canceled when the following conditions are met:

    • By turning the ignition switch to the ACC or RUN position.
    • By locking the doors when using either a power door lock switch or a keyless entry transmitter.

Exit Illumination

The BCM grounds CKTs 156 and 157 for 22-28 seconds turning on the courtesy lamps when the following conditions are met:

    • The ignition key is removed from the ignition key cylinder. The BCM detects a transition from ground to open in CKT 80.
    • The IP dimmer switch is OFF.
    • All the vehicle doors are closed at the time the ignition key is removed from the ignition key cylinder. The CKTs 49 and 727 are open.

The exit illumination is canceled when the following conditions are met:

    • Turning the ignition switch to the ACC or RUN position.
    • Locking the doors when using either a power door lock switch or a keyless entry transmitter.
    • Reinserting the key into the ignition cylinder within 5 seconds when the exit illumination starts.

Theater Dimming

The BCM dims the courtesy lamps slowly from the full brightness to OFF in 3 seconds. This feature starts anytime the BCM is turning OFF the courtesy lamps.

The theater dimming does not work when the following conditions exist:

    • Turning the IP dimmer switch from the DOME position to OFF position.
    • The illumination feature is canceled by locking the doors with a power door lock switch.
    • The exit lighting feature is canceled.

Keyless Entry Unlock Illumination

The BCM grounds CKTs 156 and 157 for 36-44 seconds turning on the courtesy lamps when the following conditions are met:

    • The ignition switch is in the LOCK position.
    • All the vehicle doors are closed.
    • The IP dimmer switch is OFF.
    • The BCM receives a message from the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) to unlock the doors.

Inadvertent Load (Battery Rundown) Protection

The body control module (BCM) has a feature called the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection. The BCM de-energizes CKT 1732 10-22 minutes after the ignition switch has been turned from the ACC or RUN position to the LOCK or OFF position.

The BCM restores power to CKT 1732 when the following conditions are met:

    • Turning the ignition switch from the LOCK or OFF position to the ACC or RUN position.
    • Removing the key from the ignition lock cylinder.
    • Opening any of the vehicle doors.
    • Turning the IP dimmer switch to the DOME position.
    • The BCM receives a message from the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR).

The inadvertent battery power rundown protection feature is mileage-sensitive. The vehicles with less than 13-16.5 total driven miles have a 3 minute time-out instead of 10 minutes.

Roof Rail Courtesy/Reading Lamps

The operation of these lamps is described as part of the courtesy lamps operation. The BCM provides power (CKT 1732) and ground (CKT 157) to these lamps controlling their operation.

In addition, these lamps have switches that allow the operator to turn them ON when the courtesy lamps are OFF. The switches provide ground to these lamps turning them ON. The switches obtain ground through CKT 850. Power to these lamps is provided by the BCM through CKT 1732 in order to be protected by the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection in case they are left in the ON position.

Inside Rearview Mirror Reading Lamps

These lamps have switches that allow the operator to turn them ON. The switches provide ground to these lamps turning them ON. The switches obtain ground through CKT 850. The BCM does not turn ON these lamps with the rest of the courtesy lamps. Power to these lamps is provided by the BCM through CKT 1732 in order to be protected by the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection in case they are left in the ON position.

IP Courtesy Lamps and Door Courtesy Lamps

The operation of these lamps is described as part of the courtesy lamps operation. The BCM provides power (CKT 1732) and ground (CKT 156) to these lamps controlling their operation.

Dome Lamp

The operation of the dome lamp is described as part of the courtesy lamps operation. The BCM provides power (CKT 1732) and ground (CKT 157) to the dome lamp controlling its operation.

IP Dimmer Switch

The IP dimmer switch allows the operator to turn ON the courtesy lamps from inside the vehicle. When the IP dimmer switch is in the DOME position the switch sends a voltage signal to the BCM through CKT 1495 causing the BCM to turn ON the courtesy lamps.

When the IP dimmer switch is OFF the BCM turns OFF the courtesy lamps. The IP dimmer switch is protected by the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection in case the IP dimmer switch is left in the DOME position with the ignition switch in the LOCK or OFF position.

Sunshade Mirror Lamp

The sunshade mirror lamps turn ON when opening its mirror cover. The sunshade mirror has a switch that closes, providing ground to the lamps, when the mirror cover is open and the switch opens when the cover is closed. The switch receives ground through CKT 850.

Power to the sunshade mirror lamps is provided by the BCM through CKT 1732 in order to be protected by the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection in case a mirror cover is left open.

IP Compartment Lamp

The IP compartment lamp turns ON when the IP compartment is open. The IP compartment lamp has a switch that closes (providing ground to the lamp) when the IP compartment is open and the switch opens when the IP compartment is closed. The IP compartment lamp switch receives voltage through CKT 1732 and ground through CKT 1450. The IP compartment is protected by the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection in case that the IP compartment is left open.

Console Compartment Lamp

The console compartment lamp turns ON when the console compartment is open with the ignition switch in the RUN or ACC position. The console compartment lamp has a switch that closes, providing voltage to the lamp, when the console compartment is open. The console compartment lamp receives power through CKT 635 and ground through CKT 1450. CKT 643 is hot when the ignition switch is in the ACC or RUN position. The console compartment lamp does not turn ON when the ignition switch is in the LOCK or OFF position.

Rear Compartment Lamp

The rear compartment courtesy lamp turns ON when the rear compartment lid is open. The rear compartment lamp has a switch that closes, providing ground to the lamp (CKT 350), when the rear compartment lid is open. The rear compartment lamp receives voltage through CKT 1732 and ground through CKT 737. The rear compartment courtesy lamp is protected by the inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection in case the rear compartment lid is left in the open position.
