Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the liftgate window. Refer to Liftgate Window Replacement .
  2. Remove the rear quarter trim located above the tail lamps. Refer to Rear Panel Molding Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  3. Remove the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  4. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 749976  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the rear windshield washer fluid supply line.
  7. Disconnect the center high mount stop lamp (CHMSL) electrical connector located behind the header panel.

  8. Object Number: 698542  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the rear windshield defogger electrical connectors (2).
  10. Remove the license plate pocket. Refer to Rear License Plate Pocket Replacement .
  11. Remove the lock cylinder. Refer to Liftgate Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  12. Remove the window latch assembly. Refer to Liftgate Window Latch Replacement .
  13. Remove the window wiper assembly. Refer to Rear Window Wiper Arm Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  14. Remove the liftgate control module. Refer to Liftgate Control Module Replacement .
  15. Remove the liftgate wire harness. Refer to Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement .
  16. Remove the liftgate struts. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement .
  17. Mark the location of the liftgate hinges using a grease pencil or other suitable marking device.

  19. Remove the liftgate hinge nuts with the aid of an assistant.
  20. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 721409  Size: SH
  1. Install the liftgate to the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the liftgate hinge nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the liftgate hinge nuts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the liftgate struts. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement .
  6. Install the wire harness to the liftgate. Refer to Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement .
  7. Install the liftgate control module. Refer to Liftgate Control Module Replacement .
  8. Install the window wiper assembly. Refer to Rear Washer Hose Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  9. Install the window latch assembly. Refer to Liftgate Window Latch Replacement .
  10. Install the lock cylinder. Refer to Liftgate Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  11. Install the license plate pocket. Refer to Rear License Plate Pocket Replacement .

  13. Connect the rear windshield defogger electrical connectors (2).

  14. Object Number: 749976  Size: SH
  15. Connect the rear window washer fluid supply hose.
  16. Connect the CHMSL electrical connector behind the header panel.
  17. Install the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .
  18. Install the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  19. Install the upper rear quarter trim, located above the tail lamp. Refer to Rear Panel Molding Replacement in Exterior Trim.
  20. Install the liftgate window. Refer to Liftgate Window Replacement .
