Window Learn Cycle Conditions

The endgate module window learn cycle must be performed whenever the following conditions exists:

    • A service part has been installed in the vehicle. The endgate module needs to learn window position and VIN for that vehicle. The learn procedure accomplishes both.
    • An endgate module has been swapped from one vehicle to another. When an endgate that has been learned in one vehicle is moved to another, the module will detect a VIN mismatch condition, DTC B1015, and enter a window fault mode until the re-learn procedure has been performed.
    • Loss of battery while the window is moving--This condition causes a window fault state because the module would not have been able to write the new position information in electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) prior to the disconnect.

Important: A battery disconnect when the window output is inactive will not cause a fault state.

    • Any fault condition, DTC B3966, which causes the window to enter the window fault state such as:
       - Out of range position--In most cases, a window re-learn will correct this issue with no other action required.
       - Open and or short circuits on the hall signal, hall sensor source or hall sensor return, or a faulty hall sensor--In this case, the circuit fault must be repaired before the window can be successfully re-learned.
    • Installation of a new window regulator into a vehicle--This condition should be re-learned via the scan tool. The manual learn will only re-learn position if the window is already in a fault state.

Window Learn Cycle Manual Learn Procedure

Important: The driver information center (DIC) will display the message See Manual - Tailgate anytime a learn is required except after the installation of a new regulator. When a module is not learned, or in a window fault state, only the window remains functional.

  1. Activate the window up switch using the key cylinder or overhead console switch and maintain switch activation for 2 seconds after the window has stalled in the fully closed position.
  2. Important: The window may be in any position to start the re-learn, but the up operation must be performed first.

  3. Activate the window down switch and maintain switch activation for 2 seconds after the window has stalled in the fully open position.

Window Learn Cycle Scan Tool Learn Procedure
