Exhaust System Insulator, Hanger, Bracket Replacement L36

Removal Procedure

Service the exhaust hangers individually in order to retain the support of the exhaust system.

Caution: In order to avoid being burned, do not service the exhaust system while it is still hot. Service the system when it is cool.

Caution: Always wear protective goggles and gloves when removing exhaust parts as falling rust and sharp edges from worn exhaust components could result in serious personal injury.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 691380  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolt securing the center exhaust hanger to the rear suspension support bracket.

  4. Object Number: 694211  Size: SH
  5. Apply a suitable lubricant to the exhaust pipe hanger rod in order to ease the removal of the hanger.
  6. Pull outward on the center exhaust hanger in order to remove it from the exhaust pipe hanger rod.

  7. Object Number: 693562  Size: SH
  8. Remove the nut securing the rear exhaust hanger to the rear exhaust hanger bracket.
  9. Apply a suitable lubricant to the tail pipe hanger rod in order to ease the removal of the hanger.
  10. Pull outward on the rear exhaust hanger in order to remove it from the tail pipe hanger rod.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 693562  Size: SH
  1. Apply a soapy solution to the tail pipe hanger rod and the inner diameter of the rear exhaust hanger in order to ease the installation of the hanger.
  2. Press the rear exhaust hanger over the tail pipe hanger rod.
  3. Position the rear exhaust hanger to the rear exhaust hanger bracket.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the nut securing the rear exhaust hanger to the rear exhaust hanger bracket.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the rear exhaust hanger nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Apply a soapy solution to the exhaust pipe hanger rod and the inner diameter of the center exhaust hanger in order to ease the installation of the hanger.
  8. Press the center exhaust hanger over the exhaust pipe hanger rod.

  9. Object Number: 691380  Size: SH
  10. Install the bolt securing the center exhaust hanger to the rear suspension support bracket.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the center exhaust hanger bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  12. Lower the vehicle.
