Battery Positive Cable Replacement Top Post

Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the negative battery post. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 800514  Size: SH
  3. Lift the positive battery post protective cover.
  4. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the positive battery post.

  5. Object Number: 800532  Size: SH
  6. Remove the battery positive cable protector cover from the underhood fuse block.

  7. Object Number: 800513  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the positive battery terminal on the underhood fuse block.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  10. Object Number: 104909  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the starter.

  12. Object Number: 166624  Size: SH
  13. Disconnect the electrical harness conduit wire ties from the engine frame.
  14. Remove the battery positive cable from the electrical harness conduit.
  15. Remove the battery positive cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 166624  Size: SH
  1. Install the battery positive cable into the electrical harness conduit.
  2. Connect the electrical harness conduit wire ties to the engine frame.

  3. Object Number: 104909  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the nut securing the battery positive cable to the starter.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable to starter nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Lower the vehicle.

  8. Install the nut securing the battery positive cable to the battery positive terminal on the underhood fuse block.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable to underhood fuse block nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  10. Install the battery positive cable protector cover to the underhood fuse block.

  11. Object Number: 800514  Size: SH
  12. Install the battery positive cable to the battery positive post.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the battery cable nut to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  14. Cover the positive battery post with the protective cover.
  15. Connect the battery negative cable to the negative battery post. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
