When the vehicle is in park and the trunk release switch is pressed it grounds the rear compartment lid release switch input in the Body Control Module (SBM). The SBM then sends a Class 2 message to the Remote Function Actuator (RFA). The RFA supplies an internal ground for the coil side of the rear compartment lid release relay activating the relay. The rear compartment lid release actuator receives battery voltage through the 15 A trunk release fuse when the relay closes. Ground is supplied by G400.

The rear compartment lid may also be released using the keyless entry transmitter.
