Power Mirrors

The vehicle is equipped with power mirrors controlled by the driver door module (DDM) and the passenger door module (PDM) in the driver and passenger front doors. The control modules move the power mirrors in response to direction from the mirror control switches located on the driver door switch assembly (DDSA).

The DDSA, DDM and PDM are joined together by a serial data circuit unique to the door module system. This is the simple bus interface (SBI) serial data circuit. The processor in the DDSA detects the switch positions of the mirror selector and mirror direction switches. The DDSA then sends this data to the DDM via the SBI. The DDM then either powers the driver door mirror motor circuits or sends data to the PDM. The PDM then powers the passenger door mirror motor circuits.

Memory Mirrors (W/A45)

The vehicle may be equipped with the personalization package containing memory seats and memory mirrors. The memory mirrors are also controlled by the DDSA, DDM and PDM. The mirrors are equipped with potentiometer circuits that provide constant information to the PDM and DDM on the location of the mirrors on their horizontal and vertical axis. This information is in the form of feedback voltage received from internal potentiometers.

When a mirror location is programmed into the personalization package, the DDM and PDM store the location information and assign it to the personalization code. When that personalization code is received the modules check the current position of the mirrors and move them to the correct position. The modules move the mirrors until the feedback voltage from the mirrors match the voltage levels stored as correct for that personalization code.

Auto-Tilt Parking Aid (W/A45)

If the vehicle is equipped with memory mirrors, the vehicle is equipped with the park aid mirror system as a personalization option. This is to assist in parallel parking situations. The park aid mirror option is turned ON and OFF through the driver information center. The feature must be turned ON for the current memory setting in order to operate.

If the option is turned ON for the current or last driver identified (by either using the key fob transmitter or by pressing the driver memory switch on the door), the passenger side exterior mirror functions as listed:

    • The passenger side mirror will tilt down when the transmission is shifted into REVERSE.
    • The passenger mirror will return to the last position when the transmission is shifted out of REVERSE.

The tilt mirror function will operate even if the mirror was positioned by using the mirror position switches, as long as the function is turned ON for the last driver identified.

In this system the instrument panel cluster (IPC) sends a Class 2 message to the DDM indicating the Reverse position of the transmission selector. The DDM sends a SBI message to the PDM which powers the vertical mirror motor to tilt the passenger mirror down.

When the IPC detects the transmission is no longer in Reverse, the IPC sends the message to the DDM. The DDM sends a message to the PDM and the PDM powers the circuits to return the mirror to the original position.

Automatic Day-Night Mirrors (DR9)

The automatic day-night mirrors are equipped with an electrochromic (EC) film that darkens when a low voltage is applied. The EC function is controlled by the interior rear view mirror.

The interior rear view mirror contains the photo cells that detect the ambient light level and compares it to the light entering the vehicle from the rear. When the level from the rear exceeds the ambient level, the EC system darkens the interior mirror and sends a low voltage to the driver side outside rear view mirror.

The EC circuit passes through the DDM, but the DDM does not affect this circuit.

Heated Mirrors

The mirrors heat during the defrost/defog cycles for the rear window. The heated mirrors are connected to the DDM and the PDM. The DDM receives a class 2 message from the RIM commanding the heated mirrors ON. The DDM sends a SBI message to the PDM to command the passenger side mirror heater ON. The DDM supplies the voltage and ground to the heater element in the driver outside mirror. The PDM supplies the voltage and ground to the heater element in the passenger outside mirror.
