  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Press the COMPASS button on the automatic day/night mirror switch.

Does the compass display a direction?

Go to Step 8

Does the compass display the correct direction?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the mirror harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the compass ignition positive voltage input circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 5

Repair the short to ground or open circuit in the compass ignition positive input circuit.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Connect a test lamp between the compass/mirror input and the mirror ground input.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Repair the short to voltage or open circuit on the mirror ground circuit. Refer to Connector Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Set the compass to the proper zone. Refer to Compass Calibration Description .

Does the compass display the correct direction?

Inspect for poor connections at the rear view mirror harness connector.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the automatic day/night mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement .

Is the automatic day/night mirror replacement complete?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
