  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, command the rear defogger relay ON and OFF.

Does the rear defogger relay turn ON and OFF with each command?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear defogger relay.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the coil side feed circuit of the rear defogger relay with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit of the rear defogger relay and the coil side feed circuit of the rear defogger relay.
  2. With a scan tool, command the rear defogger relay ON and OFF .

Test the control circuit of the rear defogger relay for a short to voltage or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Connect a test lamp between the rear defogger grid battery positive input terminal and ground.
  2. Command the rear defogger relay ON and OFF.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Measure the resistance of the rear defogger grid ground terminal to ground.

Is the resistance within the specified value?

1-3 ohms

  1. Disconnect the heated backlight antenna module.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear defogger grid battery positive voltage input and ground.
  3. Command the rear defogger ON and OFF.

Test the rear defogger battery positive voltage input circuit between the defogger grid and the heated backlight antenna module for an open circuit.
