  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With the scan tool, command the Perimeter Lamp relay ON and OFF.

Did the backup lamps turn ON and OFF with each command?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the Perim LP relay.
  3. Connect a test light between the coil side feed circuit of the Perim LP Relay and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test light illuminate?

Connect a test light between the switch side feed circuit of the Perim LP Relay and a good ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Connect a test light between the coil side feed circuit of the Perim LP Relay and the control circuit of the Perim LP relay.
  2. With a scan tool command the perimeter lamp output ON and OFF.

Did the test light turn ON and OFF with each command?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the Perim LP relay switch side feed circuit and the Perim LP supply voltage circuit at the Perim LP relay connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Inspect for poor connections at the Perim LP relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the perim LP relay control circuit for high resistance, a short to voltage, or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the remote function actuator (RFA) module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
