Did you review the audio descriptions and operations and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Insert the tape or CD from the J 39916-A .

Is the volume reduced in one or more speakers?

Go to Step 3

Is the volume reduced in all speakers?

Go to Step 4

Compare the volume to a similar vehicle with the same audio system.

Are both vehicles the same?

System OK

Go to Step 6

Test the radio output circuits of the appropriate speaker channel for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the audio amplifier diagnostic circuit for a short to B+. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the radio and perform the set up procedure for the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
