  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Operate all of the steering wheel controls.

Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the steering column in-line connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Test the steering wheel control B+ input circuit for a high resistance or open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Measure the resistance between the ignition positive voltage circuit of the steering column in-line connector and the steering wheel control signal circuit.
  2. Depress the following steering wheel controls and record the resistance values:
  3. • Volumn Up
    • Volumn Down
    • Source
    • Mute
    • Seek Up
    • Seek Down
    • Scan
    • AM/FM

Does the recorded resistances measure near the specified value?

    • 1270 ohms
    • 1564 ohms
    • 1912 ohms
    • 2387 ohms
    • 3102 ohms
    • 4282 ohms
    • 6652 ohms
    • 13,632 ohms

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  3. Test the steering wheel control signal input circuit for a short, high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
