Inadvertent Power

The inadvertent power is either an output or an input, but never both. When the inadvertent power output is inactive, activating any lamp switch grounds the inadvertent power input through the lamp. As a result of the input, the body control module (BCM) will activate the inadvertent power output.

The inadvertent power output supplies battery positive voltage (B+) to the lamps. Any of these lamps may drain the battery if you leave the lamps on. The BCM has a battery protection feature in order to protect the electrical system from these unwanted loads. The following 4 conditions may activate the inadvertent power output:

    • The ignition switch is in RUN.
    • The inadvertent power output is inactive and the inadvertent power input receives an active lamp input.
    • Any door opens.
    • The BCM receives an input from the remote function actuator (RFA) module.

The BCM deactivates the inadvertent power output if any lamp is active for more than 10 minutes and the ignition switch is OFF during the entire period.

Interior Lamp Control

The BCM controls the function of the courtesy lamps. The IP fuse block BCM fuse supplies battery positive voltage (B+) at all times to the BCM inadvertent power output. Battery positive voltage (B+) is supplied to the courtesy lamps as described above. The BCM provides a ground path to the courtesy lamps from the theatre dim-1 and the theatre dim-2 outputs. The BCM activates the outputs when a door is opened or the courtesy lamp switch activates. The outputs are deactivated when the BCM detects that all of the doors are closed and the courtesy lamp switches are inactive. If the outputs are deactivated because of a door closing, the outputs are deactivated with the theatre dimming function. The theatre dimming function causes the lamps to fade out gradually over a period of 3 seconds. If the outputs are deactivated by a courtesy lamp switch, the outputs are deactivated immediately without the theatre dimming function.

Delayed Illumination

The BCM activates the theatre dim-1 and theatre dim-2 outputs for 25 seconds when any door closes. The BCM activates the above outputs only if the ignition switch is off. If any other door closes during the delay period, the BCM begins counting the 25 seconds again. The outputs deactivate before the 25 seconds if the ignition switch is turned to RUN or the lock all doors switch is activated. The theatre dimming function will be performed after the 25 second period or an ignition switch input, but not after a doors lock input.

Auxiliary Lighting

The BCM allows the RFA module to control the interior lighting through the auxiliary lighting control circuit. When the keyless entry transmitter is used for a remote lock or a remote unlock function, the RFA activates the auxiliary lighting input on the BCM. The BCM then activates the theatre dim-1 and the theatre dim-2 outputs for up to 15 seconds. After the 15 seconds, the BCM enters the delayed illumination mode for another 25 second period. A door open input will end the auxiliary lighting mode and the BCM begins the delayed illumination mode. If the ignition switch turns to RUN, the theatre dim-1 and theatre dim-2 outputs will be deactivated. The outputs also deactivate if the lock all doors switch activates. The BCM performs no other auxiliary lighting function until the input transitions from inactive to active.

Exit Lighting

The BCM activates the theatre dim-1 and theatre dim-2 outputs for 25 seconds after the driver removes the key from the ignition. The outputs deactivate when the ignition switch is placed in the RUN position. The exit lighting function deactivates when a door opens. The theatre dim-1 and theatre dim-2 outputs, however, remain active because of the interior lamp control function that turns on the courtesy lamps when a door opens.

Lighting with Switches

The following lamps have a switch on the ground side of the lamp:

    • The IP compartment lamp
    • The rear compartment lamp
    • The courtesy/reading lamps
    • The vanity mirror lamps

When the inadvertent power output of the BCM is inactive, activating a switch grounds the inadvertent power input. Activating a switch tells the BCM to activate the inadvertent power output. The inadvertent power output supplies power to the interior lamps. Any lamp with an active switch turns on.
