Headlamps

The headlamps may be turned on 2 different ways. The headlamps will turn on when the headlamp switch is placed in the ON position. If the headlamp switch is left in the ON position, the headlamps will be deactivated after 10 minutes following a ignition switch transition to the OFF position because of the battery rundown protection. If the headlamp switch is turned on with the ignition switch in the OFF position, there is not a time out and the headlamps will remain on until the headlamp switch is turned off or the battery runs down. With the twilight sentinel in an ON position, the headlamps will automatically turn on during nighttime conditions when the ignition switch is in the ON or START position.

When the low beam headlamps are on, the high beam headlamps may be turned on by pushing the headlamp dimmer switch away from the driver. When the headlamp dimmer switch is pulled back, the headlamps will then switch to the low beams.

Twilight Sentinel

The twilight sentinel is a convenience system that controls the operation of the exterior lamps in response to the level of ambient light. The twilight sentinel turns on and off the headlamps depending on whether nighttime or daytime conditions are sensed. The twilight sentinel will also keep the exterior lamps on for a pre-selected period of time after the ignition is turned to the OFF position with nighttime conditions sensed. The exterior lamps will be turned off automatically after the delay period elapses. The delay period ranges from a few seconds to 3 minutes in approximately 10 second increments.

Daytime Running Lamps

The daytime running lamps (DRL) illuminate the high beam headlamps at a reduced intensity. The DRL will operate when the ignition switch is in the ON or START position and the gear selector lever is out of the PARK position. Any function that turns on the headlamps will override and disable the DRL system.

Flash-To-Pass

When the headlamp dimmer switch is pulled toward the driver, the high beam headlamps will light for as long as the switch is held. This will occur in any headlamp state (off, DRL, low beams). If the low beams are on, the high beam headlamps will light in addition to the low beams.

Park Lamps

The park lamps will turn on when the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK or ON position. If the headlamp switch is left in the PARK or ON position, the park lamps will be deactivated after 10 minutes following a ignition switch transition to the OFF position, because of the battery rundown protection. With the twilight sentinel in an ON position, the park lamps will automatically turn on along with the headlamps during nighttime conditions when the ignition switch is in the ON or START position. With the twilight sentinel in an ON position, the park lamps will automatically turn on along with the headlamps when the windshield wipers are turned on and the vehicle is in the ON or ACCY position. The park lamps will also turn on if the front fog lamps are activated.

Turn Lamps

The turn lamps may only be activated with the ignition switch in the ON or START position. When the turn signal switch is placed in a position in order to indicate a left turn or a right turn, the respective turn lamps will flash. The respective turn indicator will flash on the instrument cluster (IPC).

Cornering Lamps

The left or right corning lamp will light when it's associated turn signal lamps are active.

Hazard Lamps

When the hazard switch is pressed, all turn lamps will flash. Both turn indicators will flash on the instrument cluster (IPC).

Stop Lamps

When the brake pedal is pressed, all stop lamps and the center high mounted stop lamps (CHMSL) light. The hazard lamps and turn lamps override the stop lamp operation, except for the center high mounted stop lamps (CHMSL).

Backup Lamps

When the ignition switch is in the ON position and the gear selector lever is in the REVERSE position, the backup lamps light.

Underhood Lamp

When the park lamps are on and the hood is opened, the underhood lamp lights.

Reading Lamps

Each reading lamp may be manually turned on and off using the respective switch.

Courtesy Lamps

The courtesy lamps, including the reading lamps, may be manually turned on or off by placing the interior lamp switch in the ON or OFF position. When the interior lamp switch is in the AUTO position, the ambient light sensor indicates nighttime conditions, and a front door is opened, the foot well courtesy lamps, all door courtesy lamps, and the overhead console courtesy lamps turn on. When the interior lamp switch is in the AUTO position, the ambient light sensor indicates nighttime conditions, and a rear door is opened, all courtesy lamps turn on. After all doors are closed, the courtesy lamps of the last door closed will remain on for approximately 25 seconds. The courtesy lamps will deactivate immediately , if the ignition switch is turned to RUN, the interior lamp switch is placed in the OFF position, or an all door lock command is received with all doors closed.

When the interior lamp switch is in the AUTO position, the ambient light sensor indicates nighttime conditions, and the keyless entry transmitter is used to unlock the vehicle, all courtesy lamps turn on for approximately 40 seconds. The courtesy lamps will deactivate immediately, if the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the interior lamp switch is placed in the OFF position, or an all door lock command is received with all doors closed. After deployment of the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR), all courtesy lamps will light after an approximately 15 second delay period. After SIR deployment, the courtesy lamps will only be deactivated when the ignition switch is removed from the ON position.

Rear Compartment Lamp

When the rear compartment lid is opened, the rear compartment lamp lights.

Vanity Lamps

When the vanity mirror cover on the sunshade is opened, the vanity lamp lights. The vanity lamp may be dimmed through the sliding switch next to the mirror.

IP Compartment Lamp

When the IP compartment is opened, IP compartment lamp lights.

Interior Lamps Dimming

When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays turn on at maximum brightness. When the park lamps are on and the ambient light sensor indicates nighttime conditions, all incandescent switch backlighting turns on at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch and all VF displays dim to match the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. When the IP dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX, all VF displays and incandescent switch backlighting dimming level goes from minimum intensity to maximum brightness in response to the IP dimmer switch.
