Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Loosen parking brake adjuster (2) to relieve tension on parking brake cables (1).
  3. Lower vehicle.
  4. Remove left closeout / insulator panel to access the lever assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.
  5. Remove the left front carpet retainer.

  7. Pull back carpet to expose parking brake cable.
  8. Disconnect the front parking brake cable from lever assembly.
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the parking brake switch.
  10. Remove the parking brake lever assembly attaching nuts (1,2).
  11. Remove the parking brake lever assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install parking brake lever assembly to the mounting studs.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install lever attaching nuts (1,2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the parking brake lever nuts to 24N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Connect the electrical connector to the parking brake switch.
  6. Connect the front parking brake cable to the lever assembly.
  7. Reposition carpet.
  8. Install the left front carpet retainer.
  9. Install the closeout / insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

  11. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  12. Adjust the parking brake (2). Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
  13. Lower the vehicle.
