Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 105001  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the drive axle nut.
  4. Insert drift of screwdriver (1) into the caliper and rotor in order to prevent rotor from turning.
  5. Remove the brake caliper and support bracket retaining bolts.
  6. Support and hang the caliper away from the brake rotor.
  7. Remove the rotor.

  9. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector.

  10. Object Number: 397703  Size: SH
  11. Remove the hub and bearing retaining bolts.
  12. Use the J 28733-B in order to remove the hub and drive axle.
  13. Use the J 24319-B in order to separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  14. Remove the dust shield.
  15. Remove the front strut to steering knuckle retaining bolts.

  17. Use the J 43828 in order to separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  18. Remove the steering knuckle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 104997  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering knuckle.
  2. Install the lower ball joint into the steering knuckle.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the tie rod.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the tie rod end to knuckle nut to 10 N·m (88 lb in) plus an additional 180 degrees-300 degrees (3-5 flats). For cotter pin alignment, tighten the nut up to, but do not exceed 60 degrees additional rotation. Do not back off nut for cotter pin alignment.

  6. Install dust shield.

  7. Object Number: 397703  Size: SH
  8. Install the hub and bearing to the steering knuckle/drive axle.
  9. Install the hub and bearing retaining bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the hub and bearing bolts to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).

  11. Connect the wheel speed sensor connector to the wheel speed sensor.

  12. Object Number: 105001  Size: SH
  13. Install the rotor.
  14. Install the caliper support bracket /caliper assembly.
  15. Install the drive axle nut by inserting drift or screwdriver (1) into the caliper and rotor in order to prevent rotor from turning.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the drive axle nut to 145 N·m (107 lb ft).

  17. Install the wheel and tire.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel and tire 140 N·m (100 lb ft).
