Caution: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur
if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline or diesel
fuel in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have
a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
Tools Required
J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure
Gauge
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery terminal to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental
attempt is made to start the engine.
- Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve tank vapor pressure.
- Remove the fuel injector
sight shield. Refer to
Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Remove the fuel pressure connection.
- Wrap a shop towel around the fuel pressure connection while connecting
the fuel pressure gauge in order to avoid spillage.
- Connect the fuel pressure gauge J 34730-1A
to the fuel pressure connection.
- Install the bleed hose into an approved container and open the
valve to bleed the system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for
servicing.
- Drain any fuel remaining in the fuel pressure gauge into an approved
container.
