WINDSHIELD MLDG. PULLS LOOSE (INSTALL NEW MOLDING)

SUBJECT: WINDSHIELD MOULDING PULLS LOOSE (INSTALL NEW WINDSHIELD MOULDING)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1991-92 "C" MODELS ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONDITION:

---------- The following conditions may be noted on 1991-92 C models:

1. The moulding pulls out of the moulding retainer. In this situation, the entire moulding lifts up out of the retainer.

2. The stainless steel section of the moulding pulls loose from the plastic portion. In this situation, the plastic section of the moulding remains in the retainer and the stainless steel section comes up.

To determine if either of these conditions is beginning to take place, push down on the stainless steel section of the moulding. Assure the moulding does not spring up as it is pushed down and released. A properly retained moulding will be in contact with the windshield and the roof, showing no gap whatsoever.

CORRECTION:

----------- To correct either of the above conditions, the following procedure must be followed.

1. Obtain the new windshield moulding, part number #25605994.

2. Remove the windshield pillar trim mouldings from both sides.

3. Remove the drip mouldings from both sides of the vehicle.

4. Remove the windshield moulding from the retainer. Assure that none of the barbed portion of the moulding remains in the retainer.

5. Assure the moulding retainer is not broken or damaged to the point that another moulding cannot be installed. If the retainer must be replaced, the windshield must be removed at this point.

6. Using a suitable tool, push the locking portion of the retainer toward the windshield to tighten the retainer's grip on the moulding barb.

7. Assure the channel in the retainer is clean and dry.

8. Apply a light bead of Loctite 410 or equivalent the entire length of the retainer channel.

9. Align the centering notch in the new moulding with the notch in the centre of the retainer and install the moulding into the retainer. The moulding is completely installed when the bottom flap of the moulding is in contact with the glass and the upper flap in contact with the roof. This contact should exist for the entire length of the flap.

10. Reinstall the drip mouldings.

11. Reinstall the windshield pillar side mouldings.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
