Effective immediately, paint mix time must be submitted with each individual labor operation. Currently, paint mix time for each labor operation is added together and submitted on the first paint labor operation on the repair order. Effective October 6, 2003, any repair order that contains one or more paint labor operations must have the paint mix time for each operation submitted in the labor hours column for that labor operation. Effective October 6, 2003, claims will be rejected for excessive labor hours if the paint mix time is not calculated individually for each labor operation. The paint mix time is not to exceed 0.5 hour per repair order.

Example

The following example is provided to outline the correct procedure to use for submitting a 3-line paint claim:

If a 2004 GMC Sierra arrives at your dealership with a hood, left front fender and driver's door that required color/clear coat repairs due to debris in the paint, the following example is the correct submission process to obtain payment through the warranty claims payment system. The proper repair times, material allowance and paint mix times have been calculated and provided for your review.

This example is calculated at a dealer labor rate of $60 per hour. Each labor operation contains the appropriate material allowance included in the Net column. Paint mix time is calculated for each line and submitted as "Labor Hours" until a total of 0.5 hour is reached. 0.5 hour is the maximum amount allowable for paint mix time. On line one, the repair time was 1 hour plus 0.3 hour for the appropriate paint mix time. On line two, the repair time was 2.1 hours plus 0.2 hour, which is the remainder of the allowable paint mix time for any repair order (maximum 0.5 hour). The labor time for this line is a total of 2.3 hours. On line three, the repair time was 2.2 hours with no paint mix time allowance because the maximum of 0.5 hour has been reached.
