Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Body Rear End?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Rear End

Open the rear compartment.

Does the trunk ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

1. Install a scan tool.
2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
3. Open the trunk.
4. With a scan tool observe the trunk ajar parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) data list.

Does the scan tool display on?

Go to Step 12

Go to Step 4

1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
2. Connect a fused jumper between the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator and a good ground.
3. With a scan tool observe the trunk ajar parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) data list.

Does the scan tool display on?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

1. Connect a fused jumper between the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator and the battery positive voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator.
2. With a scan tool observe the trunk ajar parameter in the rear integration module (RIM) data list.

Does the scan tool display on?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 9

Test the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 7

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear integration module (RIM). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 11

Repair the open or high resistance in the battery positive voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Replace the rear integration module (RIM). Refer to Rear Integration Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 13

Replace the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 13

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 13

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
