Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .

  3. Object Number: 324821  Size: SH
  4. Remove the wire harness assembly (4) out of the wire harness strap (5).
  5. Remove the wire harness straps (3) from the wire harness assembly.
  6. Remove the wire harness strap (2) from the upper tilt head assembly (1).
  7. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.

  9. Remove the theft deterrent control module (2) from the lock module assembly.

  10. Object Number: 324871  Size: SH
  11. Remove the key alarm connector (1) from the lock module assembly (4).
  12. Remove the ignition switch retaining screws (3).
  13. Remove the ignition switch.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 324871  Size: SH
  1. Install the ignition switch (2) to the steering column.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the ignition switch retaining screws (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition switch retaining screws to 7 N·m (62 lb in).

  5. Install the key alarm connector (1) to the lock module assembly (4).
  6. Route the electrical harness and connect electrical connections.

  8. Install a new wire harness strap to the upper tilt head assembly (2).
  9. Install new wire harness straps to the wire harness assembly (3).
  10. Install the wire harness assembly into the wire harness strap (5).
  11. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement - On Vehicle .
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
