Schematic Reference: Instrument Cluster Schematics

DEFINITION: One or more DIC switches are inoperative.

Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Press each driver information center (DIC) switch one at a time.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the following DIC switch parameters in the instrument cluster (IPC) data list:
  5. • Display Fuel Switch (uplevel)
    • Display Gauge Switch (uplevel)
    • English/Metric Sw.
    • Odo/Trip Switch (uplevel)
    • Reset Switch (uplevel)
    • Trip Reset Switch (base)

Does the scan tool display On or Active when each switch is pressed?

Does the scan tool display On or Active when any switch is pressed?

--

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the suspect DIC Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display On or Active?

Test the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the DIC switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument cluster (IPC). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the DIC switch. Refer to Driver Information Display Switch Replacement .
