Luggage Compartment Description and Operation General

The rear compartment release system consists of the following components:

    • Rear compartment lid release switch
    • TRK/REL relay
    • Rear compartment lid release actuator
    • Instrument panel cluster (IPC)
    • Rear integration module (RIM)
    • Drivers door module (DDM)

When the trunk release switch is pressed, the release switch grounds a switch input to the driver's window switch. The driver's window switch sends a signal to the drivers door module by a simple bus interface. The drivers door module sends a class 2 message to the rear integration module which grounds the control circuit of the trunk release relay in the rear fuse block for 1/2 second.

The trunk release relay is hot at all times through a 15 A fuse. When the trunk release relay is energized, the trunk release relay sends battery voltage to the trunk release actuator.

Luggage Compartment Description and Operation Ajar Indicator

TRUNK AJAR -- 24

The IPC illuminates the TRUNK AJAR -- 24 indicator in the DIC when the rear integration module (RIM) detects that the trunk is ajar or open (signal circuit is low). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the RIM requesting illumination. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
