Front and/or Rear Door Trim Panel Loose (Door Trim Panel Repair Procedure)

Some customers may comment that the front and/or rear door trim panel will come loose or separates from the top of the door and will not retain in the inner sealing strip.

This condition may be due to the door trim panel not retaining in the inner sealing strip.

The following procedure may be used for the front and rear door trim panels.

1. Remove the door trim panel assembly. Refer to the Doors sub-section of the appropriate Service Manual.
2. Remove the staples that attach the inner sealing strip to the door trim panel.
3. Align the new inner sealing strip along the top of the door trim panel. Ensure that the rear cutout in the new inner sealing strip is matched to the rear knob on the back side of the door trim panel.
4. Install the new inner sealing strip from the front side of the trim panel.

•	Place your thumbs on the door trim panel and grasp the new inner sealing strip with your fingers and "roll" the sealing strip up and over the edge towards the front side of the door trim panel.

•	Continue this process along the entire length of the inner sealing strip.

5. Invert the door trim panel assembly and turn the back side of the panel towards you.
6. Start at one end and with one hand squeeze the belt strip and door trim panel together.
7. Using 1/2 inch wide, 1/4 inch long 20 gauge galvanized stables, evenly space 10 staples along the length of the inner sealing strip. If using an air staple gun, tilt the gun slightly into the strip.
8. Install the door trim panel assembly. Refer to the Doors sub-section of the appropriate Service Manual.

The following procedure may be used for the front and rear door trim panels.

1. Remove the door trim panel assembly. Refer to the Doors sub-section of the appropriate Service Manual.
2. Remove the staples that attach the inner sealing strip to the door trim panel.
3. Align the new inner sealing strip along the top of the door trim panel. Ensure that the front end of the new inner sealing strip is flush with the front end of the door trim panel (the cutout in the inner sealing strip goes over the joint).
4. Install the new inner sealing strip from the front side of the trim panel.

•	Place your thumbs on the door trim panel and grasp the new inner sealing strip with your fingers and "roll" the sealing strip up and over the edge towards the front side of the door trim panel.

•	Continue this process along the entire length of the inner sealing strip.

5. Invert the door trim panel assembly and turn the back side of the panel towards you.
6. Start at the front end and with one hand squeeze the belt strip and door trim panel together.
7. Using 1/2 inch wide, 1/4 inch long 20 gauge galvanized stables, evenly space 10 staples along the length of the inner sealing strip. If using an air staple gun, tilt the gun slightly into the strip.
8. Install the door trim panel assembly. Refer to the Doors sub-section of the appropriate Service Manual.
