Instrument Panel Compartment Door Lock Cylinder Replacement Buick

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 478468  Size: SH
  3. Remove the fasteners (1) retaining the IP compartment door.
  4. Remove the door from the IP compartment.

  5. Object Number: 478474  Size: SH
  6. Remove the latch assembly fasteners (1, 2).
  7. Remove the latch assembly.

  8. Object Number: 478469  Size: SH
  9. Remove the retainer clip (1) from the lock assembly.
  10. Remove the lock assembly.
  11. Push a paper clip through the hole in the back of the latch in order to hold down the silver tumbler on the lock cylinder.
  12. While holding down the tumbler, insert the key.
  13. Rotate the cylinder a quarter turn counter-clockwise.
  14. Remove the lock cylinder.

Installation Procedure

  1. While pushing down the silver tumbler on the lock cylinder, insert the key into the lock cylinder keyhole.
  2. Install the lock cylinder to the lock assembly.
  3. Turn the key a quarter turn clockwise. Remove the key.
  4. Install the lock assembly to the door.

  5. Object Number: 478469  Size: SH
  6. Install the lock assembly retainer (1).

  7. Object Number: 478474  Size: SH
  8. Install the latch assembly.
  9. Install the latch assembly fasteners (1, 2).
  10. Install the door to the IP compartment.
  11. Install the door assembly fasteners (1).
  12. Install the IP compartment to the IP. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  2. Remove the door from the IP compartment.

  3. Object Number: 482126  Size: SH
  4. Push a paper clip through the hole (2) in the back of the latch in order to hold down the silver tumbler on the lock cylinder.
  5. While holding down the tumbler, insert the key.
  6. Rotate the cylinder with the key a quarter turn counter-clockwise.
  7. Remove the lock cylinder (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. While pushing down the silver tumbler on the lock cylinder, insert the key into the lock cylinder keyhole.
  2. Install the lock cylinder assembly (1) into the IP compartment lock cylinder hole.
  3. Hold the lock cylinder assembly in the hole while removing the key from the lock cylinder assembly.
  4. Install the door to the IP compartment.
  5. Install the IP compartment to the IP. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the IP compartment.

  2. Object Number: 488067  Size: SH
  3. Remove the IP compartment latch assembly fasteners (1) from the IP compartment door.

  4. Object Number: 488064  Size: SH
  5. Remove the IP compartment latch assembly.
  6. With the key removed, push in on the silver tab on top of the lock cylinder .
  7. Insert the key and turn counter-clockwise to release cylinder.

  8. Remove the cylinder.
  9. Remove the key.

Installation Procedure

  1. Press the silver tab on the lock cylinder down.
  2. Insert the key.

  3. Install the lock cylinder into the IP compartment latch assembly.
  4. Turn the lock cylinder clockwise.

  5. Remove the key.
  6. Install the lock cylinder assembly to the IP compartment door.

  7. Object Number: 488067  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the lock cylinder assembly fasteners (1) to the IP compartment door.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  10. Check the lock cylinder operation.
