Was the Audible Warnings System Check performed?

  1. Unbuckle the left front safety belt.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position.

Do both of the following actions occur?

    • The fasten belts indicator turns ON for approximately 70 seconds.
    • The chime sounds for approximately 6 seconds.

  1. Leave the left front safety belt unbuckled.
  2. Leave the ignition in the ON position.

Does only the chime sound?

Go to Fasten Safety Belt Indicator/Chime Inoperative

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Buckle the left front safety belt.
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position.

Do both of the following actions occur?

    • The fasten belts indicator turns ON.
    • The chime sounds.

  1. Leave the left front safety belt unbuckled.
  2. Leave the ignition in the ON position.

Does only the indicator turn ON?

Inspect the body control module (MALL) connector C2 for proper contact.

Is the contact OK?

  1. Disconnect the mall module connector C2.
  2. Measure the resistance from connector C2 terminal D1 (harness side) to ground.

Does the resistance measure less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the MALL module connector C2.
  2. Measure the resistance from terminal D1 (harness side) to ground.

Does the resistance measure less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Replace the MALL module. Refer to Multifunction Alarm, Lock and Lighting Module Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Is the replacement complete?

Inspect CKT 238 (BLK/WHT) for an open.

Is the wiring OK?

Go to Step 16

Inspect CKT 238 (BLK/WHT) for a short to ground.

Is the wiring OK?

Inspect the safety belt switch for correct operation. Terminal A and terminal B should maintain continuity with the belt unbuckled.

Does the switch operate properly?

Inspect the safety belt switch for correct operation. Terminal A and terminal B should have no continuity with the belt buckled.

Does the safety belt switch operate properly?

Repair the short to ground in CKT 238 (BLK/WHT). Refer to Repairing Damaged Wire Insulation in Wiring Systems.

Inspect CKT 1250 (BLK) at the seatbelt switch for an open.

Is the wiring OK?
