Circuit Description

The TRACTION ACTIVE indicator is used only on Oldsmobile. The TRACTION ACTIVE indicator is controlled by serial data over the UART lines form the EBTCM.

Diagnostic Aids

Perform a through inspection of the wiring and connectors. Failure to carefully and fully inspect wiring and connectors may result in misdiagnosis, causing part replacement with reappearance of the malfunction.

Test Description

The number below refer to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step check if the IPC has the ability to turn the indicator OFF.

With a scan tool in ABS/TCS Special Tests command the TRACTION ACTIVE indicator off.

Does the TRACTION ACTIVE indicator turn off?

Replace the EBTCM. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Suspect the IPC. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
