Generator Replacement L36

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the drive belt.
  3. Remove the engine cover.

  5. Remove the front generator support brace.
  6. Remove the generator mounting bolts.

  7. Object Number: 42124  Size: SH
  8. Remove the rear pencil brace bolt.

  9. Object Number: 42435  Size: SH
  10. Remove the output terminal nut.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  12. Object Number: 42122  Size: SH
  13. Remove the generator.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 42122  Size: SH
  1. Position the generator on the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 42435  Size: SH
  3. Connect the generator electrical connector.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the output terminal nut.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Install the generator mounting bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  9. Install the front generator support brace.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. Install the rear pencil brace.
  12. Install the rear pencil brace bolt.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  14. Install the engine cover.
  15. Install the drive belt.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the cable nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

Removal Procedure

  2. Remove the drive belt.
  3. Remove the engine cover.
  4. Remove the rear pencil brace bolts (1).
  5. Remove the brace.
  6. Remove the generator mounting bolts (2).

  8. Remove the output terminal nut.
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  10. Remove the generator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the generator.
  2. Connect the electrical connector.

  8. Install the rear pencil brace (1).
  9. Install the rear pencil brace bolt (2).
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  11. Install the engine cover.
  12. Install the drive belt.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the cable nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
