  1. Inspect the battery state of charge.
  2. Test or charge the battery as needed.
  3. Turn the ignition to START.
  4. Does the SECURITY indicator stay on or flash continuously?

  1. Load test the battery.
  2. Inspect the battery cables and the battery connections.
  3. Repair or replace as needed.

Does the SECURITY indicator go out?

--

System OK

Go to Step 4

  1. Remove fuse 7 from the relay center.
  2. Place the ignition in START.
  3. Measure the voltage from the solenoid S terminal (PPL) to ground.

Is the voltage 8.0 V or more?

8.0 V or more

Go to Step 5

Inspect for the following conditions (refer to Section 8A):

  1. A faulty S terminal connection
  2. A dirty or faulty ground connection between the starter motor and the engine block

Repair as needed.

Does the SECURITY indicator go out?

  1. Backprobe C101 terminal F1.
  2. Disconnect the solenoid CKT 6 PPL wire.
  3. Measure the voltage form the female side of C101 terminal F1 to ground.

Is the voltage 8.0 V or more?

8.0 V or more

Replace the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.

Does the SECURITY indicator go out?

System OK

Inspect the C101 terminal contact and CKT 6 from C101 to the solenoid for an open.

Repair as needed.

  1. Connect the solenoid PPL wire.
  2. Disconnect the PNP Park/Neutral Position switch C1.
  3. Connect a test lamp between C1 terminal G and ground.
  4. Turn the ignition to START.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Refer to Section 8A Theft Deterrent System PASS-Key II Diagnostic System Inspection.
  2. Inspect for an open in CKT 625.
  3. Inspect the PRNDL switch for damage.
  4. Repair or replace as needed.

Does the SECURITY indicator go out?

  1. Connect the PNP (PNP) switch.
  2. Remove the AIRBAG/VATS fuse 2E from the I/P fuse block.
  3. Turn the ignition to START.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Inspect for an open in CKT 806.
  2. Inspect for an open in CKT 575.
  3. Inspect for high resistance or an open across the starter enable relay coil terminals A1 and C2.
  4. Repair or replace as needed.

Are the repairs complete?

Backprobe C202 terminal D5 (RED) to ground.

Is the voltage more than 8.0V?

More than 8.0 V

Put the ignition in START.

Backprobe C202 terminal B6 (YEL) to ground.

Is the voltage more than 8.0 V?

More than 8.0 V

Inspect CKT 1342 wiring and the battery positive booster cable for an open or short to ground. Replace the IGN fuse if needed.

Make all repairs as needed.

Are the repairs complete?

  1. Inspect for an open in CKT 5 (YEL).
  2. Inspect for an open in CKT 6 (PPL) between the starter enable relay terminal A2 and C101 terminal F1.
  3. Inspect the starter enable relay.
  4. Repair as needed.

  1. Inspect the contact between C202 terminals B6 and C5.
  2. Inspect the CKT 5 wiring for a short to ground.
  3. Inspect the ignition switch for possible damage.
  4. Inspect the steering column CKT 1342 (RED) to CKT 5 (YEL) wiring for an open circuit.
  5. Refer to Section 8A for repairs.

Are the repairs complete?
