Removal Procedure

Caution: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads. Do not remove the spark plugs from a hot engine, allow it to cool first. Removing the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause spark plug thread damage or cylinder head damage.


    Object Number: 14824  Size: SH
  1. Remove the spark plug wire. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Replacement.
  2. Loosen the spark plug 1 or 2 turns.
  3. Brush or using compressed air, blow away any dirt from around the spark plug.
  4. Remove the spark plug.
  5. If removing more than one plug, place each plug in a tray marked with the corresponding cylinder number.

Installation Procedure

  1. Correctly position the spark plug washer.
  2. Inspect the spark plug gap. Adjust the gap as needed.
  3. Specification
    Spark plug gap: 1.016 mm (0.040 in).

  4. Hand start the spark plug in the corresponding cylinder.
  5. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Tighten the spark plug.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the plug to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  8. Install the spark plug wire. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Replacement.
