Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 260140  Size: SH
  1. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side and/or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side.
  2. Note: Place the valve rocker arm, pushrod, and pivot support, in a rack so that the can be installed in the same location from which they were removed.

  3. Remove the valve rocker arm bolt.
  4. Remove the valve rocker arm.

  5. Object Number: 260141  Size: SH
  6. Remove the valve rocker arm pivot support.

  7. Object Number: 260142  Size: SH
  8. Remove the pushrod.
  9. Clean and inspect the valve rocker arm and pushrod. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure

Note: 

   • When reusing the valve train components, always install the components to their original location and position.
   • Valve lash is net build, no valve adjustment is required.


    Object Number: 260141  Size: SH
  1. Lubricate the valve rocker arm and pushrod with clean engine oil.
  2. Lubricate the flange of the valve rocker arm bolt with clean engine oil.
  3. Install the valve rocker arm pivot support.

  4. Object Number: 260142  Size: SH

    Note: Make sure that the pushrod seats properly to the valve lifter socket.

  5. Install the pushrod.

  6. Object Number: 260140  Size: SH

    Note: Ensure that the pushrod seat properly to the ends of the rocker arm. DO NOT tighten the rocker arm bolt at this time.

  7. Install the rocker arm and bolt.
  8. Rotate the crankshaft until the number one piston is at top dead center (TDC) of the compression stroke. In this position, cylinder number one rocker arms will be off lobe lift, and the crankshaft sprocket key will be at the 1:30 position.
  9. The engine firing order is 1, 8, 7, 2, 6, 5, 4, 3.

    Cylinders 1, 3, 5, and 7 are the left bank.

    Cylinder 2, 4, 6, and 8 are the right bank.

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  10. With the engine in the number one firing position, tighten the following valve rocker arm bolts:
  11. Tighten

        • Tighten cylinders 1, 2, 7, and 8 exhaust valve rocker arm bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
        • Tighten cylinders 1, 3, 4, and 5 intake valve rocker arm bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
  12. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees.
  13. Tighten the following valve rocker arm bolts:
  14. Tighten

        • Tighten cylinders 3, 4, 5, and 6 exhaust valve rocker arm bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
        • Tighten cylinders 2, 6, 7, and 8 intake valve rocker arm bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
  15. Install the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side and/or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side.
