Removal Procedure

Note: There are several types of plastic fuel and evaporative emission (EVAP) quick connect fittings used on this vehicle. The following instructions apply to all types of plastic quick connect fittings except where indicated.


    Object Number: 155410  Size: SH
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief.
  2. Warning: Wear safety glasses when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury.

  3. Use compressed air, blow and dirt or debris from around the quick-connect fitting.

  4. Object Number: 12777  Size: SH
  5. Squeeze the plastic quick connect fitting release tabs together to disengage the quick connect fitting. (This step applies to Bartholomew style fittings ONLY).

  6. Object Number: 1205675  Size: SH
  7. Squeeze where indicated by the arrows on both sides of the plastic ring to disengage the quick connect fitting.

  8. Object Number: 1306341  Size: SH
  9. Squeeze where indicated by the arrows on both sides of the plastic ring to disengage the quick connect fitting.

  10. Object Number: 12778  Size: SH
  11. Pull the quick connect fitting connection apart.

Installation Procedure

Warning: In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, before connecting fuel pipe fittings, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends.

This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak.

During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.

  1. Apply a few drops of clean oil to the male connection end.

  2. Object Number: 21855  Size: SH
  3. Push both sides of the quick-connect fitting together in order to cause the retaining tabs to snap into place.

  4. Object Number: 155399  Size: SH
  5. Once installed, pull on both sides of the quick connect fittings in order to ensure that the connection is secure.
