Circuit Description

The yaw rate sensor reference voltage is monitored for an over or under voltage condition.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • Ignition ON.
    • The vehicle speed is greater than 40 km/h (25 mph).

Conditions for Setting the DTC

A malfunction is detected if the supply voltage is above 2.9 volts or below 2.1 volts for more than 200 milliseconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The traction control system (TCS) and vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) are disabled.
    • The SERVICE VEHICLE SOON and Stability Off lamp indicators are illuminated.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.
    • The electronic brake control module (EBCM) clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

The EBCM detects a short to B+, short to ground, or an open/high resistance in the yaw rate sensor supply voltage circuit.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the EBCM harness connector at the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor.
  2. Ignition OFF, with a DMM test for less than 5.0 ohms between the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor low reference circuit terminal 6 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, with the DMM test the low reference terminal 6 circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  4. Ignition ON, with a DMM test for 2.1-2.9 volts between the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, with the DMM test the 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1 for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
    If greater than the specified range, with the DMM test the 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1 for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  6. With the DMM, verify the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor signal circuit terminal 4 range is less than 2.1 volts.
  7. If greater than the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor signal circuit terminal 2 and the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1. With a DMM verify the voltage value is greater than 2.9 volts.
  9. If less than the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  10. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor.

Component Testing

  1. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor 5-volt reference terminal 1 and 5 volts. Install a jumper wire between the low reference terminal 6 and ground.
  2. Sweep the sensor through the entire range while monitoring the resistance between the signal circuit terminal 4 and the low reference circuit terminal 6. The voltage should vary between 2.1-2.9 volts without any spikes or dropouts.
  3. If not within the specified range or is erratic, replace the Yaw and Lateral Acceleration Sensor.

Repair Instructions
