1. Reading Lamps Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The reading lamps are made up of the overhead console reading lamp, the dome/reading lamps (left and right) (DH6), and the lamps located in the rearview mirror (UE1). The overhead console reading lamp and the dome/reading lamps (left and right) lamps also function as courtesy lamps. Ignition voltage is supplied at all times to the reading lamp switch by the BCM via the inadvertent power courtesy lamp control circuit. When the reading lamp switch is pressed, the switch is closed and voltage is supplied to the lamp, illuminating the reading lamp bulb. The reading lamp switch is part of the reading lamp assembly.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, press each overhead console reading lamp switch. The appropriate reading lamp should illuminate.
  2. If the lamp does not illuminate, refer to Overhead Console Reading Lamp Malfunction.
  3. Press each dome/reading lamp switch. The appropriate dome/reading lamp should illuminate.
  4. If the lamp does not illuminate, refer to Dome/Reading Lamp Malfunction.
  5. Press each rearview mirror reading lamp switch. The appropriate reading lamp should illuminate.
  6. If the lamp does not illuminate, refer to Rearview Mirror Reading Lamp Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Overhead Console Reading Lamp Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the overhead console reading lamp.
  2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  6. If all circuits test normal, replace the overhead console reading lamp.

Dome/Reading Lamp Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate dome/reading lamp.
  6. If all circuits test normal, replace the dome/reading lamp.

Rearview Mirror Reading Lamp Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the inside rearview mirror.
  2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 8 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the control circuit terminal A and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  6. If all circuits test normal, replace the inside rearview mirror.
