DEFINITION: One or more of the door ajar message(s) does not display Ajar when the corresponding door is ajar. One or more of the door ajar message(s) displays Ajar when the corresponding door is closed

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Verify that the Door Ajar message or indicator malfunction is present.

Does the Door Ajar message/indicator operate as described in the system description and operation?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Close all doors.
  4. With a scan tool, navigate to the body control module (BCM) Inputs Data List and observe the parameter of each door ajar switch:
  5. • LF Door Ajar Switch
    • RF Door Ajar Switch
    • Left rear Door Ajar Sw.
    • Right rear Door Ajar Sw.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Door Ajar Switch parameter is Closed for all doors?

Go to Step 4

  1. Open all of the vehicle doors.
  2. With the scan tool, observe each door ajar switch parameter in the BCM Inputs Data List:

Does the scan tool indicate that the door ajar switch parameter is Ajar for all doors?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector at the malfunctioning door lock.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the inoperative door ajar switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Closed?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector at the malfunctioning door lock.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the door ajar switch signal circuit and ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate door ajar Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Closed?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect the 3-amp fused jumper wire between the door ajar switch signal circuit and the ground circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate door ajar switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Ajar?

Go to Step 11

Test the door ajar switch signal circuit for an open or a short to battery. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Go to Step 15

Test the door ajar switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the malfunctioning door lock. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Repair the open/high resistance in the ground circuit of the door lock. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.

Replace the door lock. Refer to Door Lock Cylinder Replacement or Frozen Lock Cylinder Repair .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
