Starter Replacement L26

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 911140  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the front lower air deflector panel. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement .
  4. Remove the torque converter covers. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement .
  5. Remove the starter solenoid S terminal nut (9) and remove the starter solenoid wire (8) from the starter motor.
  6. Remove the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut (2) and remove the positive battery cable (3) from the starter motor.

  7. Object Number: 461901  Size: SH
  8. Remove the starter bolts (1, 2) and the starter motor.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 461901  Size: SH
  1. Align the starter motor to the engine.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the starter bolts (1, 2) finger tight until seated.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the starter bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  5. Install the positive battery cable (3) and the solenoid BAT terminal nut (2). Tighten finger tight to the starter motor.
  6. Install the starter solenoid wire (8) and the starter solenoid S terminal nut (9). Tighten finger tight to the starter motor.
  7. Tighten

    1. Tighten the solenoid BAT terminal nut (2) to 9.5 N·m (84 lb in).
    2. Tighten the starter solenoid S terminal nut (9) to 2.3 N·m (20 lb in).
  8. Install the torque converter covers. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement .
  9. Install the front lower air deflector panel. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  3. Remove the radiator air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement.

  4. Object Number: 1394041  Size: SH
  5. Remove the starter motor BAT terminal nut and electrical leads.

  6. Object Number: 1394040  Size: SH
  7. Remove the starter motor bolts.
  8. Remove the starter motor.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1394040  Size: SH
  1. Install the starter motor.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the starter motor bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the starter motor bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the starter motor S terminal electrical connector.
  6. Install the battery positive cable and the BAT terminal nut to the starter motor BAT terminal.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the starter motor BAT terminal nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  8. Install the radiator air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Install the battery ground (negative) cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
