Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the oil level indicator.
  2. Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  3. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
  4. If you are unable to remove the oil level indicator tube, perform the following steps:

    3.1. Remove the stud in order to allow for lateral movement of the oil level indicator tube.
    3.2. Apply penetrating oil to the bottom of the oil level indicator tube.
    3.3. Move the oil level indicator tube back and forth in order to loosen the oil level indicator tube.

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the oil level indicator tube.
  2. Apply GM sealant P/N 12345739 or equivalent around the oil level indicator tube 12.7 mm (0.50 in) below the bead.
  3. Install the oil level indicator tube into the engine block.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the oil level indicator tube bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft.).

  7. Install the oil level indicator.
  8. Install the thermostat bypass pipe. Refer to Thermostat Bypass Pipes Replacement in Engine Cooling.
