BLOWN STOP LIGHT FUSE (NEW WIRE ASSEMBLY P/N)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1986-88 A,N,C,H AND 1988 J,L MODELS CARS

A condition may be encountered where the stop light fuse blows and it is difficult to locate the point of contact or short circuit. On cars equipped with OPTION V56 or V58 Luggage Rack, the cause could be the feed wire to the center mounted stop lamp contacting the lamp holder bracket. The wires are routed inside of the lamp assembly such that they could contact the lamp holder bracket and melt into the insulation and short out.

A new wire assembly, Part Number 16505618, has been released which has a higher temperature resistant insulation. To repair the condition a new wire assembly should be installed. Route the wire away from the lamp brackets and do not clamp or pinch it during reassembly.

Connect the wiring and be sure the routing is clear and the grommet is seated.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
