A/C COMPRESSOR SHAFT NUT REMOVAL (IMPROVED QUALITY)

SUBJECT: SHAFT NUT REMOVAL FROM THE HR6HE A/C COMPRESSOR

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL MODELS 1993 AND PRIOR YEARS WITH HR6HE COMPRESSOR

Effective April 29, 1991 the shaft nut on the HR6HE compressor has been removed on all production and service compressors.

Elimination of the shaft nut has been made possible through improved plant quality controls which assures proper press fit of the clutch driver to compressor shaft.

When it is necessary to turn the compressor shaft to perform service leak testing, a M9 x 1.25 threaded nut must be installed on the shaft to facilitate turning of shaft with a wrench.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
