J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the front fender upper diagonal. Refer to Front Fender Upper Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8L.
  4. Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  5. Object Number: 379828  Size: SH
  6. Loosen the condenser tube nut from the condenser.

  7. Object Number: 379830  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the condenser tube from the condenser.
  9. Remove the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut from the condenser.
  10. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the condenser.

  11. Object Number: 282839  Size: SH
  12. Tilt the top of the condenser to the rear of the vehicle and lift up to remove the condenser.
  13. Ensure the lower rubber mounts stay in place in the vehicle.
  14. Remove the upper rubber mounts from the condenser.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the upper rubber mounts on to the condenser.
  2. Install the lower ends of the condenser in to the lower rubber mounts.
  3. Important: Ensure the upper rubber mounts stay in place on the condenser.

  4. Tilt the top of the condenser in to place.
  5. Important: Coat the new O-ring seals with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  6. Install the new O-ring seals onto the A/C compressor hose and the condenser tube. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

  7. Object Number: 379830  Size: SH
  8. Connect the condenser tube to the condenser.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Tighten the condenser tube nut.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  12. Connect the A/C compressor hose to the condenser.
  13. Install the A/C compressor hose block fitting nut ot the condenser.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  15. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  16. Install the front fender upper diagonal. Refer to Front Fender Upper Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  17. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.1L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8L .
  18. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  19. Leak test the fittings of the component usingJ 39400-A .
